Where we stand: The Big 12 got off to an early start last weekend, as Oklahoma State topped Texas Tech in a Thursday night shootout 45-35. Elseware, everything remained somewhat as expected, as Texas shut out Kansas, and Baylor, Kansas State and TCU each enjoyed blowout wins.

The SEC was a bit more exciting, as Texas A&M staged a furious comeback to take down Arkansas in overtime and Missouri scored 14 4th quarter points to top South Carolina on the road. The other games were comparable snoozers, as LSU, Auburn and Ole Miss dominated inferior out of conference opponents. This weekend will help us begin to sort out the SEC West with a pair of undefeated showdowns, as Texas A&M travels to Starkville to take on Mississippi State and top ranked Alabama will head to Ole Miss.

As the projections note, LSU is emerging as the favorite to represent the SEC in NRG Stadium. They’ll have a chance to rebound from the loss to Mississippi State this weekend as they travel to Auburn to take on the undefeated Tigers. The Big 12 remains split between undefeated Oklahoma State and TCU, as well as 2-2 Texas. Our staff projections continue to move towards an improving Texas team turning it around and heading to Houston and LSU finishing the season at NRG Stadium where they began.

Looking ahead: After a relatively slow weekend, two games between undefeated SEC West teams loom in the SEC, while Baylor and TCU get their first real tests of the season::

  • Texas A&M @ Mississippi State: 11:00 AM CST, ESPN
  • Texas @ Baylor: 2:30 PM CST, ABC
  • TCU @ Oklahoma: 2:30 PM CST, Fox
  • Alabama @ Ole Miss: 2:30 PM CST, CBS
