Bud Light Bowl Projections Roundup: Week 2

Where we stand: The SEC enjoyed a banner weekend against mostly weaker competition on Saturday, going 12-1 with the single loss coming in the lone conference game between Vanderbilt & Ole Miss. Missouri remains the most popular choice among the SEC teams projected to finish 3rd-8th, but we continue to think they’ll be heading elseware to a bowl closer relatively closer to Columbia. Much will depend on how many teams in the SEC finish in the top 12 and earn automatic bids into the six College Football Playoff bowls. With the cap on teams that existed in the BCS no longer in effect, the final CFP rankings could greatly lower the number of teams available from the SEC, hence the Louisiana Monroe prediction from CBS Sports.

Outside of Austin, the Big 12 also had a great weekend on the field, going 7-2 with the lone losses coming from Texas (to BYU) and Iowa State (to Kansas State). The conference has a few big out of conference matchups looming this weekend with Tennessee traveling to Oklahoma, Arkansas heading to Lubbock to take on Texas Tech and UCLA and Texas squaring off at Jerry World in Arlington.

Looking ahead: More previews coming later this week, but a few early season non conference games could have big bowl implications as we move into Week 3.

  • Arkansas @ Texas Tech: 2:30 PM CST, ABC
  • UCLA vs. Texas (Dallas): 7:00 PM CST, FOX

The Awards Section

Haircut of the Week/Year/Century: Nevada LB Brock Hekking not only made a number of big plays during Nevada’s win over Washington State, he also took the internet by storm with this incredible bro’d out bleached blonde spiked mullet.

Best Celebration: Notre Dame DC Brian VanGorder with a classic reverse fistpump, understandably fired up after the Irish ended the Michigan series for the foreseeable future with a blowout/shutout victory.

Best Commitment to the Job (NFL Edition): Carolina Panthers kicker Graham Gano wasn’t about the let the Bethune Cookman marching band/dance party get in the way of his halftime warmups.  UPDATE: Gano has already reached out to the trombonist and offered him tickets & field passes when the Panthers travel to Atlanta.
