DePelchin Children’s Center
The Texas Bowl is proud to be aligned with DePelchin Children’s Center in Houston as the Bowl’s honored charitable beneficiary. A portion of the proceeds of the game will be donated to this worthwhile institution establishing the Bowl’s lasting legacy to the community.
DePelchin Children’s Center is committed to meeting the needs of children as one of the largest providers of mental health, foster care and adoption services in Texas. Through its clinical expertise and special brand of caring, DePelchin turns lives around, providing a full continuum of care including psychiatric services, counseling, residential treatment, programs for at-risk youths, parent education, foster care and adoption. DePelchin is a not-for-profit organization and gratefully receives its support from individuals, foundations and corporations; government grants and fees; and United Way agencies.
DePelchin was founded in 1892 by Kezia Payne DePelchin to shelter orphaned children. It was originally named the “Faith Home” because Mrs. DePelchin had faith in the “good people of Houston” to support her cause. Although she died within a year of opening her “Faith Home”, community leaders, touched by her passion and mission, became united in their determination to carry on her work.
Over the years, DePelchin has expanded and adapted its programs to meet the needs of a dynamic and growing Houston. Today, more than 20 different programs are available to children and families at schools, community sites and in their homes, as well as at the main Houston campus and five satellite offices located throughout the Greater Houston area. In 2012, DePelchin expanded beyond Greater Houston by joining with Caring Family Network, an Austin-based foster care and adoption agency, with locations throughout Texas including Austin, Brownwood, Kerrville, Lubbock and San Antonio.
