Week 11 Bowl Projections

Texas Tech made their first appearance in our bowl projections after falling to Kansas State over the weekend, while the Big Ten picture became a little muddier with the Michigan Wolverines joining the fray:

Where we stand: Kansas State has been the favorite from the Big 12 side for quite a few weeks, however that all changed this weekend as they traveled to Lubbock and defeated the reeling Red Raiders, who have now lost 3 straight after starting 7-0. Texas Tech would be returning to Houston after defeating Minnesota on a last second field goal in last year’s bowl game.

The Big Ten also became a little less clear, as Nebraska’s win over Michigan put them squarely in the range of teams that could be available around our pick (5th after BCS). The Wolverines have never played in the Texas Bowl and would surely welcome the warm weather in late December. Minnesota continued one of their best seasons in recent history, downing Penn State 24-10 and improving to 8-2.

The Iowa Hawkeyes, last week’s popular Big Ten  pick, didn’t appear in any of the selections on our list after becoming bowl eligible on Saturday but still remain a very realistic possibility depending on how the last few weeks shake out.

Likely 2014 matchup: Each week, we’ll take a look at what our potential matchup would be next year, as we move up two spots in the Big 12 and into a rotation of selections in the SEC. Here’s our (admittedly somewhat wild) guess as to who could be our teams if the 2014 lineup was played this year:

  • Big 12 #3 (after CFB Playoff): Oklahoma Sooners
  • SEC selection (pool of bowls after CFB Playoff & Capital One Bowl): LSU Tigers

Game ball goes to: Shock Linwood, Baylor: Injuries to their first and second runningbacks apparently weren’t enough to slow down the Bears’ powerful offense. Linwood, Baylor’s 3rd string runningback, took over after Lache Seastrunk and Glasco Martin went down with injuries and rushed for 182 yards on 23 carries in the Bears’ win over Oklahoma. The results shouldn’t have been surprising, given that Linwood is 7th in the Big 12 in rushing yards despite averaging less than 10 carries per game.

We taught him that last year: Big congrats to our 2012 Texas Bowl Big Ten team, the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as they continued their great season with a win over Penn State. Coach Kill celebrated in the best way we could imagine, joining his team in a postgame locker room dance party.  <<<WATCH HERE>>>

In other dance party news: Wisconsin put together this great video of most of the campus imitating star RB’s James White and Melvin Gordon’s fantastic touchdown dance collaboration. <<<WATCH HERE>>>
