Week 3 Preview
Every week in the Bud Light Blog we’ll take a look at a few key Big 12 & SEC games that are coming up. This week it’s the freshman-laden Tennessee Volunteers’ trip to Oklahoma to take on the 4th ranked Sooners:
Tennessee vs. Oklahoma – ABC – 7:00pm CST: Tennessee is off to a hot start, dropping underrated Utah State 38-7 at home and then pulling away from Arkansas State late. The Vols have played 22 freshman so far, tops in the country, and their first road trip will be to one of the most intimidating venues in college football. Bob Stoops’ Sooners are 88-5 at home and the fans will surely be fired up for this one after Stoops ignited the SEC faithful with a few well placed barbs during the offseason.
On the other side of the ball, the Sooners have been dominate in their first two games, taking down overmatched Louisiana Tech and Tulsa by a combined score of 100-23.The Sooner ground game is off to a strong start, accounting for 444 yards and 9 touchdowns, while last year’s Sugar Bowl hero Trevor Knight has been an efficient 40-68 for 552 yards and three touchdowns.
The Sooners are looking like they may CFB Playoff bound, however this game still may have early AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl implications. The Volunteers strong start has improved their chances at reaching bowl eligibility for the first time since 2010, and with Texas A&M and LSU also looking like potential CFB Playoff participants the Vols could emerge as a great candidate to head to Houston on December 29th.
